Costs of damage

DHL is a world leader when it comes to international express deliveries. The organisation has 250 aeroplanes, 150,000 vehicles and 170,000 employees in 228 countries.

Damage to the vehicle fleet as a result of collisions or vandalism is inconvenient. Not only does damage have a negative impact on the company’s visual image, but it is also, above all, a considerable cost item for DHL. Having vehicles out of action for a long time while awaiting repair impacts on the logistical process and consequently costs a great deal of time and money.

Our task was to optimise the process of dealing with damage and to create cost savings with a management plan for a large portion of DHL’s vehicle fleet.

Quick savings

To ensure that the process of dealing with damage is managed as efficiently as possible, our Brand2Manage™ Fleet system was brought into use. Using this system NykampNyboer documents the entire process relating to damage, and the whole course of events – from the notification of the damage through to completion of the repair – is managed by us. A service desk made up of experts handles the process and assesses each instance of damage and the quotations provided by body shops. This creates certainty for DHL and guarantees quality.

We document all claims files in Brand2Manage™ Fleet and have a fixed process in place for each case of damage (notification of damage - authorisation - notification that vehicle is ready). The system provides insights into costs in the form of management information. This has made it possible to save no less than 25% in directly measurable costs. The initial costs were recovered within the first year and DHL is still saving every day in terms of manpower.

We are extremely satisfied. This approach leads to shorter turnaround times, processes that are clear and transparent and lower costs. In addition, it saves us a great deal of administrative bother.
