Do it yourself or outsource?
Grid operator Alliander came into being as a result of the split-off from Nuon and consists of the business units Alliander, Liander, Liandon and Liandyn. NykampNyboer supported the company with its rebranding. Due to the organisational split and the company’s brand diversity, however, it also became necessary for Alliander to examine the process relating to its printed matter. The company outsourced the supply of its printed matter to us on a temporary basis together with the task of analysing how this process could be optimised.
Relieving pressure and introducing improvements
We produced a business case with answers relating to two scenarios: centralisation of printed matter within Alliander or outsourcing. We also identified the wishes and requirements of those directly concerned.
During our analysis, our print desk coordinated the relevant (ordering) processes. This took the pressure off Alliander’s employees during the rebranding. Thanks to our knowledge and experience in the areas of both graphics and purchasing, over this period we were able to improve Alliander's printed matter visually and lower its purchasing prices. Together these two elements created a clear business case with a good financial basis.
It was decided that, following the rebranding, responsibility for the supply of printed matter would be placed back within Alliander’s own organisation. This meant that a central print desk had to be developed. For us, the task was to introduce the improved printing process within Alliander’s organisation.
We supervised the launch and development of a print desk at Alliander, including the appointment and training of a Print Desk Coordinator. Based on a roadmap drawn up by NykampNyboer for process optimisation over the next three years, Alliander is in a position to ensure the continuity of its supply of printed matter itself, as well as to further optimise and professionalise this process.
The result is that Alliander has better control over the quality of its printed matter and over the consistent use of its brand and corporate identity. What’s more, the printing process has been improved: central control and purchasing, shorter lines of communication and reduced costs.
