Maastoren: Deloitte and AKD visible at high altitude |
|
June 2010 |
Rotterdam's skyline changed considerably in 2009 with the appearance of the Maastoren. Its height of 165 meter makes it the tallest office in the Netherlands. Since April 2010 the Maastoren is equipped with light signage. For two major users of the building, Deloitte and AKD, we placed two large signage elements.
The way this signage is placed is unique for the Netherlands. Since aerial work platforms do not reach this height, the elements were lifted and mounted from a two meter wide window cleaning platform. To make mounting from this platform possible, the signages were composed of different elements. This made it a complex logistic operation.
To get the brands visible at this altitude, the specifications of the two elements are impressive. The box letters of AKD are 5 meters in height and the 17 meters wide Deloitte signage is build from 121 different components. Lifting each component takes an hour considering the delicate facade and weather. In total 12,500 kg of steel, aluminium and neon glass was used. We chose neon because it renders the best result both visually and financially.
